Press Release - Idaho Republican Leaders Vote to Restrict Candidates from Running for Office
There is no doubt that this rule, if passed, will have profound effects on the future of Idaho elections and would lead Idaho far from a representative republic and further towards an oligarchy.
It has come to my attention that the Idaho Republican Party (GOP) leaders will be voting on a rule change this Friday and Saturday, requiring any person wanting to run in the Republican Primary to first receive approval from the party bosses. This proposed rule gives full discretion to the party leaders to decide who will run as a Republican candidate and who will not. No other party in any state has passed rules such as this. If this amendment is approved, Idahoans will not be making the choice of who represents them. The choice will first be made by those who control the Republican Party. Much like the Chinese Communist Party, the party rulers of the Idaho GOP will have full control over who appears on your ballot. Additionally, this rule bleeds all the way down to the County Central Committees picking and choosing which candidates will run for local offices.
There is no doubt that this rule, if passed, will have profound effects on the future of Idaho elections and would lead Idaho far from a representative republic and further towards an oligarchy. We believe this rule change flies in the face of the ideas on which our Nation, State and the Republican Party were founded. We encourage you to voice your opposition to this underhanded proposal by contacting your County Central Committee and Precinct Committeemen.
UPDTAE: We are pleased that so many people across Idaho contacted their Republican Party leaders and expressed concern with what some in the party were trying to do. Never is giving a few people arbitrary power wise. Today the Idaho Republican rule change did not pass through the committee. It is no doubt due to so many people in Idaho who understand liberty and desire to retain our Constitutional Republic.
